Yesterday, the longest day of the year, was a hectic day. I attended Times Square Alliance‘s annual Solstice Yoga in Times Square. I hadn’t practiced in a long time and I was grateful to have an opportunity to get to yoga.
I signed up for the 10 am class. They were offering yoga classes all day long. I showed up to check in at 9:20. The line was long, but check in went quickly and efficiently. Everyone got a free hot pink yoga mat and an Athleta bag (Athleta was the sponsor). The bag had a 20% off coupon for Athleta, a bottle of Smart Water, and a sample of Luna Bar.
Hundreds of people descended to Times Square, one of the most crowded and congested squares in the world to practice. From 43rd St to 47th St, we were there to practice. We had a 75 min practice. When we started, I groaned at how stiff and inflexible I had become. I remember when I could bend over and lay my hands flat on the floor last year. Months off regular yoga practice resulted in this stiff body.
After a warming up and going through a few asanas, my body loosened up and I moved more freely. I try not to compare myself to other people when I practice, but it’s hard not to. Practice always go better when you concentrate on yourself and not on others. Yoga is about being mindful of your own practice.
After the practice was over, I felt so energized. I was looking to going home and having a relaxing afternoon at home with Ben. It turned out less than relaxing.
As I walked to our building, I discovered that the spot where I had parked my car was now devoid of my car. The building had it towed because they said I was blocking the garage. The same nonfunctioning garage since Hurricane Sandy and where lots of other people in the building also use to park their cars. We found where my car got towed and went to go get it.
It’s my first time getting my car towed. The whole experience was annoying, upsetting, and nerve frazzling. I tried to keep my cool throughout the whole experience. On the grand scheme of things, this problem is fixable and temporary, so I know it’s not that big of a deal in the long run. Anyway I didn’t like getting my car towed and I hope this never happens again.
