Boom!
First running goal of the year accomplished. One of my goals was to run a 7-min mile. I’ve done this a couple of times on the treadmill, but I wanted to make it official by doing it in a track. Ben offered to pace me to make sure that I don’t start out too fast.
Goal: four laps around the track at 1:45.
At the first lap I felt really good and wondered if we were going too slow. I pushed it a bit by edging in front of Ben and he gently reminded me, “You don’t need to go so fast.” At the end of second lap, we realized that we were slightly off our pace and needed to speed up a bit to make the target. At the end of the third lap, I was ready for this to be over. On the straightaway, I could see our bright yellow bottle of water that we had brought with us. I stared at it as I ran as hard as I could.
And when it was over, the Garmin read: 6:59.9.
I squeaked it in with no margin for error.
Lap 1: 1:46
Lap 2: 1:47
Lap 3: 1:43
Lap 4: 1:44
Congrats!! I knew you had this in you when you made it one of your goals. It’s got to feel good!
Thank you! It feels amazing.
Wow, that’s a ridiculous time. Bravo. It took me 60 minutes to go 5 miles and I about needed a defibrillator! 😀
Thank you. It took quite a bit of training. A year ago, I would have told you that it was impossible for me to run faster than a 8-min mile. I’m eating my words now.
