2021 is My Comeback Year

I did a thing today.

I ran.

I ran for the first time since March 10, 2020. There was no a priori plan. I stopped running in March (I’ll get into the reasons why when I get back on track to talking about my pregnancy journey) and I simply hadn’t felt like running postpartum. I woke up this morning and I thought to myself, “I think I’ll go run today.” And I did.

It was fun. It wasn’t for very long – 1.7 miles. It wasn’t fast (10:34 pace). It was just what I needed.

Then later this afternoon I found out that BAA announced Boston Marathon will happen on Oct 11th and they’re accepting qualifying times from Sept 15, 2018 onward. My BQ from Phoenix is still good. Holy sh!t, I may get my chance to run Boston after all!

I’m glad that I ran before I learned about Boston because this way I know I ran because I really wanted to go running and not because I felt pressure to get back into shape for Boston.

So, yeah, I did a thing. I think 2021 will be my comeback year.

  1. That’s exciting that your BQ will still count for this year’s race! From someone who’s been there, just know your ligaments and body in general is different now than pre-baby. Stretch, foam roll, and get regular massages and all of that will help. Good luck!

  2. Yay, congrats on the run! I took off four months this summer myself and it was the best thing I could have done. Wow, that’s exciting about Boston – I wonder what things will be like by October! Nice to know I MIGHT have a chance to run it (although I’m sure entry competition will be huge and my squeaker status may not qualify).
