The 6th annual Paine to Pain Trail Half Marathon will be taking place on Oct. 6, 2013. You can register for it here. I ran it last year and had a fantastic time. You can read my review here. If you’re looking for a fall trail half marathon in the NYC area, I can’t recommend P2P highly enough.
Fees (taken from NYCRuns)
- $50 Enthusiasts Discount: April 23 until May 31. For those who will rearrange their schedule to run this puppy.
- $55 Runners Rate: June 1 through August 31st.
- $60 Dilly-Dalliers Rate: Sept. 1 until we close e-registration on Monday, September 30, at midnight.
- $65 Wussies Penalty Rate: Last minute sign-ups for those needing to first check the weather forecast, so they don’t get their little shoesies muddy (if space is still available).
At noon today the registration for the ING NYC Marathon opens up. You can read information about the registration process here at Runner’s World. To register please go to the official ING NYC marathon site.
For 10 years I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the beloved traditions there is Bay to Breakers, a 12K running party through the streets of San Francisco. The spectators are out in full force. Prizes are given out for best costumes and as a result several runners are decked out in wacky costumes. My favorite (and it’s an annual tradition) is the salmon centipede (a centipede is a group of a minimum of 13 runners plus an alternate in a group themed costume). Like real migrating salmon, the salmon centipede starts the race at the finish line and ends at the start line. They run the race “upstream.” You know when the salmon centipede is coming because all of a sudden everyone in front of you gets really excited and yells, “The salmon are running! The salmon are running!”
I haven’t been back to Bay to Breakers since 2005 when I left SF, so I’m really excited that I’m running it again this year with my sister this time! If you’re in the Bay Area, you should join in on the fun! Yesterday I found this promo code good for $10 off the entry fee.
$48 for 48 Hours Offer brought to you by @craigslist.$5 per entry benefits @onefundboston. 4/23-4/25 bit.ly/VgWu2X Promo Code: 48

I’ve heard such great things about Payne to Pain. I’ve never done a trail race before. Sounds like a good one to start with!
Absolutely! I think it’s incredibly well-run and just a lot of fun to run in the woods. I hope you decide to do it this year (or sometime soon)!
